Luceco and Ensigna Construction have collaborated to become a preferred supplier to Hackney Learning Trust. Ensigna Construction is the main contractor carrying out building refurbishment projects to assist Hackney Schools, successfully completing 44 school projects at the time of writing for the Trust.
Hackney Learning Trust was the first private, not-for-profit company in the UK to takeover a council’s entire education function. The Trust is now a department in Hackney Council’s Children and Young People’s service and is responsible for children’s centres, schools, and adult education.
Parkwood Primary School is located near Finsbury Park with a diverse community of pupils representing more than 30 nationalities and languages. After a full lighting appraisal and design, over 40 LuxBay low output LED luminaires were installed throughout multifunctional rooms. LuxBay boasts 105 Llm/cW, is environmentally friendly and requires no maintenance over its lifetime. Variants include 100, 150 and 200 watts, with either a wide or narrow clear lens, attachments including flat wired guards and polycarbonate clear diffusers.
LED LuxPanels and linear Academy luminaires were also installed throughout the building serving various classroom applications. Cost effective and energy efficient, both luminaires provide over 50,000 hours illumination without maintenance as does the Platinum downlight installed in corridors. Offering potential running cost savings of up to 80% over traditional lamped fittings, Platinum has an impressive efficacy of 135 Llm/cW.
LuxBay was also installed at the Sports Hall facilities at Princess May Primary School. LuxBay also offers 50,000 hours of service with options of integrated presence and daylight sensors for use with fixed output or DALI dimmable control gear as well as emergency variants.
Princess May offers places for children from 3 to 11-year-old within a diverse community. As well as LuxBay being installed at the school, other LED luminaires used included Ice. Contemporary and stylish, Ice Linear is a transparent optic pendant luminaire providing both upward and downward light distribution. Supplied complete with adjustable wire suspensions, Ice Linear delivers an enhanced lit effect, the sleek transparent design complements modern interiors even when turned off.
The suitably named Leren, meaning universal wisdom and learning, was installed at Clapton Girls’ Academy. The school was established in 1906 providing young women of Hackney the opportunity to achieve academic success.
Leren offers both upward and downward light distribution providing an enhanced overall lit environment, particularly where there are high or open ceiling voids to illuminate. Supplied complete with adjustable wire suspensions and available as DALI dimmable and with emergency back-up variants, Leren provides a 60% down and 40% up light distribution and is at home in any environment where lighting needs to be brought closer to a task area or the working surface, such as desks. Suitable for many commercial applications such as board rooms and offices, Leren also benefits other environments such as libraries and educational establishments as at Clapton Girls’ Academy.
Hackney is now a borough with sustained achievements and innovation in education. Luceco and Ensigna Construction are delighted to be a small but enlightening part of such a success story.
