The brief included replacing all existing conventional fixtures with energy-efficient LED luminaires. Over 26,000 luminaires were supplied creating over 60% in energy savings on lighting the facilities.  Luceco won the tender to supply both residential and public buildings within the development covering schools, public facilities including the mosque, ambulance centre, police station, health clinic, retail outlets, and government buildings.

A host of LED luminaires were involved within the refurbishment programme.  Internally, many of Luceco’s key luminaires were used including LuxPanels, Academy and a range of downlights such as the Platinum and Palladium.  The Platinum range includes Platinum Mini and Platinum Surface as well as the popular high-performance Platinum used in many commercial and retail environments.

The recessed luminaries share the same enviable design features such as easy fit positive locating swing-out tabs and running cost savings, is an ideal alternative to CFL downlights as well as a host of bezel and reflector options.  The Platinum family is ideal for use with sensors and lighting controls to further improve energy efficiency and has dimmable and emergency options available.

Luceco has recently launched a new modular downlight addition to their accent and display range. Palladium offers two wattages; 6W at 560Llm and 8W at 730Llm with an efficacy of up to 94 Llm/cW, both with 50,000 hours working life. With a die-cast aluminium heat sink and attachments, this modular design allows for many interior decors.  Attachments include fixed, adjustable, adjustable gloss, square regressed gloss as well as circular and square regressed low glare.  Palladium utilises Crystalline Optics™ with low-glare illumination and can be recessed mounted with spring steel clips allowing installation into plasterboard and suspended ceiling systems. Standard, dimmable and emergency options of Palladium are available.

The F-Type downlight is a fixed fire rated luminaire with super-efficient Samsung LED chips delivering 100Llm/cW, with leading and trailing edge dimming compatibility as standard, available in 3000K and 4000K colour temperature.   F-Type has an integrated dimmable driver with a loop in / loop out push-fit piano key terminals, so speed and ease of installation is guaranteed with clip and fit and speed fit wiring!

The range also includes a Dim2Warm version, when dimmed the colour of the light emitted becomes warmer.  As with the fixed F–Type, Dim2Warm is fully tested to 30, 60 and 90 minutes fire rating and is insulation coverable.  The F-Type Colour Changing downlight offers a 3 step colour change using a standard light switch to provide 3000K, 4000K or 6500K.  All F-Type downlighters offer a choice of interchangeable bezel types and finishes.

Other internally mounted luminaires from Luceco included LuxPack and Academy.  The Academy luminaire is designed and typically used in education applications and benefits from an opal prism diffuser with a screw secured end caps and can be surface mounted or suspended. LuxPack features a wraparound opal diffuser for optical control and comes in 1200mm, 1500mm and 1800mm lengths.

Both LuxPack and Academy has a central cable entry with BESA fixings spaced at 600mm, so are ideal for retrofitting in place of traditional fluorescent fittings in commercial and educational environments. Both luminaires are available in emergency variants and digital dimming, with the Academy also available with microwave sensor and LiteIP and LuxPack offering high output variants and PIR presence detection.

Numerous bulkhead-style luminaires were also used in the refurbishment programme including the Atlas, Mosi and Sierra.  The Sierra is a recent addition to the range, surface mounted, it provides 2000 lumens of optimal light, being a direct equivalent to a 38W 2D lamped bulkhead and is suitable for installation in communal areas including corridors and stairwells.  Sierra features a polycarbonate base and diffuser with white trim, polished chrome accessories are also available.

For the more industrial applications, another recent addition to join Luceco’s HighBay family was used. Eris is a modern and slim IP65 rated luminaire, with die-cast aluminium body and polycarbonate lens optic for optimum performance and is at home in many industrial and retail environments.  Supplied as digital dimmable or standard, Eris comes complete with a hook for suspension mounting and options include 20,250 lm & 32,400 lm variants with the efficacy of 135Llm/cW.

Externally, Luceco supplied the Architectural Wall Light, Guardian Pro Floodlight, Fortis Wall Pack and Kingfisher’s Sloane 2.0.  Architectural Wall Light is a contemporary by-directional exterior surface mounting LED luminaire designed for creative lighting effect whilst delivering functional lighting to the exterior space. Suitable for both commercial and residential environments, Architectural Wall has an attractive anthracite IP65 rated aluminium housing and polycarbonate optic providing a contemporary appearance to enhance any outside space.

The Fortis Wall Pack was used to provide building perimeter lighting. Fortis offers an energy-efficient alternative to HID fittings with a 45W LED luminaire being the equivalent of a 70W traditional HID fitting, and a High Space to Height ratio providing the ideal retrofit alternative to existing Wall Pack installations. With CRI>80, Fortis Wall Pack is ideal for areas with CCTV and variants include standard output, photocell, and emergency options.  Fortis benefits from ingress protection of IP65 as well as 50,000 hours of operational life – a strong contender in the exterior LED luminaire market.

Guardian Pro, a commercial-grade floodlight designed to replace HID fillings, was also used. Ranging from 50W to 220W, 5200 to 23,00 lumens achieving 105Llm/cW, Guardian Pro features ‘fit and tilt’ brackets for simple installation with tilt adjustment locks.

Sloane from Kingfisher, part of the Luceco plc group, was used to enhance the external lit environment.  Sloane is a Class 2, IP65 rated 60W, 4000K post top spherical luminaire ideal for large amenity applications where sensitivity to the lit area is required.  Suitable for use with control systems and consisting of a precision manufactured optic distribution system, applications include urban and civic areas, parks, plazas, pathways, and pedestrian areas.

The West Abdullah Al Mubarak City Project was managed by the Public Authority of Housing Welfare in Kuwait.
